Goodbye old friend.

For almost three years, I’ve owned a Volkswagen Rabbit GTI. The original hot hatch. It ran great, but it’s owner wasn’t reliable when it needed to be maintained. An axle doesn’t take more than 30 minutes to change, but it would sit for a week if it happened. Transmission? Two months. It was absolutely ridiculous. No car should sit for a year and a half with a motorswap in the works. No car.

So here we are. For the first time in awhile, I don’t have a GTI. That’s that.

Bummed

I thought that this summer would be packed with awesome shows, hanging out all the time with all my friends, and being stoked on everything. WRONG. I spend more time in my room than anything else. It’s like being in school, minus the school portion. I seriously need a job because I have no money…but, all in all, no real complaints, unless you count having your heart absolutely shattered.

The only thing I really look forward to is going to Disneyland again. I didn’t even write about it when I got back because there are no words to describe what it’s like to be down there with your best friends. It was like an commercial when all of us were on the Matterhorn. Yelling random shit, fireworks going off…I mean, get real.

Toy Story 3

And here it is. The film that came out right at the perfect age. Fast forward 15 years to now; Toy Story 3. It only made sense that I saw it at the midnight showing with the people that care about me as much as I care about them. Theater was packed and everyone was enthused to be there. Everyone knew that this was going to blow their minds.

I’m not going to talk about what happens in the movie, it’s up to you if you want to see it. The way that things have been going lately, this may very well be the bookend to my youth; a symbolic beginning of growing up. However, fuck growing up, stay young forever, because at the end of the day it’s not how old you are, it’s how old you feel.

So go watch Toy Story 3. Go as soon as possible. Bring your best friends, your girl/boyfriend, and see it in a packed theater with everyone just as stoked as you are. If you don’t smile, laugh, fight back a tear or two or three then you probably have no soul.

Getting organized

I’ve been going to Ikea every now and then thinking I’m going to buy a book shelf to organize my books, items, and most importantly CDs. Driving home the other day, I saw this book shelf in front of my next door neighbor’s driveway. It was free for the taking, or to be picked up by the garbage people. Anyway, I went ahead and got it after testing to see if a record would fit on the shelf. So here’s a recap of the last two days or so of not having anyone home.

Here it is in place, next to my current bookshelf.

Just to put this into perspective, here’s about a third or so of my CD’s

I wanted to fit more since there was so much space between the shelves. I went ahead and cut up some boxes I had laying around to make more layers for the CDs.

Oh, by the way, Wal Mart has Pepsi products on sale; 24 pack for 5 dollars…so I just had to get stocked with Mountain Dew, aka the beverage of gods’. However, before stocking the fridge with this wonderful drink, I had to make room. This is what happens when you leave beer in my fridge;

Stoked to go to Disneyland…I plan on taking a bunch of pictures.

I got this Scirocco…and the first thing I did was wash it up and throw in a radio. The paint can definitely be buffed out.

Interior is actually in really great shape…tossed in the spare Kamei shift knob I had laying around.

So here’s the stereo wired up, but the car isn’t put together.

I haven’t been updating lately cause I’ve been living life. Simply put, if you don’t have any interesting stories to tell, then you haven’t lived. Here’s a quick recap of the last couple of weeks/month in pictures that I didn’t take. If I had money, I’d probably buy another DSLR, but what’s the point of a nice camera that I won’t even use to its potential?

Shows…lots. Of course, why not? If I go two weeks without going, I feel weird. HARDCORE LIVES. (Links to Henry’s blog in the pic).

I was honestly amazed with the amount of feedback I’ve gotten about my car. So many people PM’ing with questions, I was a tad bit overwhelmed.

I can’t wait for summer. I really need a break, but I’m excited to be that much closer to graduating…not that I’m enthusiastic about growing up or anything like that.

Anyone who is into hardcore simply for “the music” is into it, as I see it, for the wrong reasons. If you don’t have any sort of social conscience or beliefs systems that you can relate to in the music, and if there aren’t topics that you feel like you can go to a show and talk to people about (other than “the mosh” or how hard a band is), you should just find a new hobby.

With the influx of religious argument amongst the people I know, I’d like to take this time to address this quote. If you take a look, you’ll see that there’s more to hardcore than just going to shows and listening to music. Underneath the loud music is a message. If you’re not questioning the establishment, questioning religious right, or actively questioning the world at large, then you’re missing the point.

All of us are impressionable, whether we like it or not. If started early, then you can easily be brain washed into believing anything. People should be taught to question, taught to think on their own. If all you are doing is regurgitating what you’ve been told all of your life, then what good does it do? If you can’t formulate your own opinion, your own ideas, and perhaps explore something different for once, then nothing good will ever come out of it. You may put out a happy demeanor when among a crowd, but deep inside you’re hurting because there’s a doubt that you have to set aside and deny.

I first got into hardcore when I was 13 and I haven’t looked back since. It’s taught me how to question religion, question authority. It taught me how to be okay with running against the grain, taught me the beauty of living a sober life. If you’re simply into hardcore for ‘the music,’ the ‘sick pit moves,’ or how ‘heavy’ a band is, then you won’t be around very long. If it doesn’t spark any sort of anger, aggression, rational thought, or critical thinking, then find something else.
